In Their Words...
The Evergreen State College conducts faculty narrative evaluations at the end of each course as a way to reflect on the student. Here, I have included several faculty narrative evaluations over the course of my time at Evergreen.
“Mak consistently brought curiosity, thoughtfulness, and genuine care into every learning space. Whether discussing ecological restoration, public leadership, or community engagement, she approached ideas with both analytical depth and humanity.”
“What stood out most about Mak was her ability to connect disciplines that are often separated—science, policy, art, leadership, and culture. She demonstrated not only strong academic ability, but the rare capacity to see the bigger picture and understand how systems affect both people and landscapes.”
“Mak approaches learning with intention. She doesn’t simply complete assignments; she immerses herself in the process, asks meaningful questions, and seeks understanding that extends beyond the classroom.”
“Across research projects, fieldwork, presentations, and collaborative assignments, Mak consistently demonstrated intellectual curiosity, professionalism, and creativity. Her work reflected both strong technical skill and deep personal investment.”
“In Costa Rica, Mak fully engaged with the experience of tropical ecology. From conducting butterfly field research to presenting findings to peers, she combined scientific observation with enthusiasm, organization, and confidence.”
“Mak demonstrated an impressive ability to move between quantitative analysis, qualitative research, and systems thinking. She worked thoughtfully with data while never losing sight of the human and community dimensions behind the work.”
“One of Mak’s greatest strengths is her ability to communicate complex ideas clearly and authentically. Her presentations were calm, engaging, and well organized, and her written work consistently reflected depth, clarity, and insight.”
“Mak’s restoration work stood out because it balanced scientific rigor with compassion and long-term vision. She approached ecological restoration not simply as environmental management, but as stewardship rooted in relationships, culture, and responsibility to future generations.”
“Her work on endangered prairie butterflies demonstrated exceptional attention to detail, strong research ability, and a thoughtful understanding of habitat restoration strategies. The final restoration chapter was both actionable and deeply meaningful.”
“Mak showed tremendous growth as a leader and collaborator throughout the program. She became increasingly confident in discussions while remaining grounded, supportive, and open to learning from others.”
“As a teammate, Mak was dependable, encouraging, and thoughtful. She contributed positively to every group dynamic and helped create collaborative environments where people felt heard and respected.”
“Mak brings empathy into leadership spaces in a way that feels genuine and impactful. Her understanding of leadership goes beyond management—it is rooted in connection, creativity, authenticity, and care for community.”
“Creativity became one of the defining strengths of Mak’s work. Through art, storytelling, and reflective practice, she found innovative ways to communicate ideas and deepen engagement with leadership, restoration, and healing.”
“Mak’s final creative synthesis projects were among the most memorable we have seen. Her work reflected courage, vulnerability, imagination, and a willingness to push beyond traditional academic boundaries.”
“There is a sincerity to Mak’s work that people naturally connect with. She brings kindness, generosity, and emotional intelligence into both academic and professional settings.”
“During her internship, Mak proved herself to be a strong communicator and reliable team member. She handled outreach events, restoration activities, and community engagement efforts with professionalism, initiative, and care.”
“Mak has a natural ability to bridge research and action. She takes complex environmental and public challenges and translates them into thoughtful, community-centered solutions.”
“What makes Mak especially unique is the balance she brings between analytical thinking and creativity, confidence and humility, leadership and collaboration. She leads in a way that feels deeply human. Her journey reflects someone who is not only academically capable, but genuinely passionate about making a positive impact. She brings together science, policy, communication, art, and compassion in a way that feels both rare and deeply needed.”
